2012 Chicago Lesson Study Conference"Using Level 3 teaching to cultivate the mathematical practices of the Common Core State Standards" Thursday and Friday, May 3-4, 2012 Prieto Math and Science Academy, Chicago Registration deadline: 2012-04-24 At the 2010 Chicago Lesson Study Conference, we presented the concept of Level 3 teaching, in which the teacher creates circumstances that lead students to discover important ideas for themselves. This kind of teaching naturally cultivates many of the mathematical practices called for in the Common Core State Standards. But what does that kind of teaching look like, and how can lesson study help teachers progress towards it? This year's Chicago Lesson Study Conference will feature speakers and, of course, live research lessons to foster discussion among participants around the challenge of implementing the Mathematical Practices of the Common Core State Standards.

2011 Tenth Annual Lesson Study Conference"Bringing the Common Core Standards to Life" Thursday to Saturday, May 12 - 14, 2011 Newberry Math and Science Academy, 700 W. Willow, Chicago, IL Registration deadline: 2011-04-29 The Common Core State Standards promise to bring focus and coherence to K-12 mathematics and English/Language Arts, but they are just marks on a page until teachers bring them to life in their classroom lessons. Come join educators from around the country to see how lesson study can be used to develop a common understanding of what the CCSS really mean in practice. There will be four live research lessons, one for high school mathematics, two for elementary mathematics, and one for 8th grade language arts, held concurrently with the high school math lesson.
